Seeing and using Google Analytics for the first time can be a bit daunting…
Statics for website usage and access have improved and got more complex over the years. The days of counting “hits” is now long gone.
My SEO Guy found this nice explainer article on what each of the technical term means at Google Analytics.
Here’s just a snippet.
Once again it has been some time since we updated everyone on our own standings in Google for our chosen prime keywords – SEO Brisbane – so it is time for an update…
Our last ranking update had us at position #32 for ‘SEO Brisbane’, and we were pleased that we had seen a nice rise in our ranking. I explained in part then that the rise was due to “work” we had been doing, and that we were pleased with the outcome.
But now.. I know in recent times we have not been doing the “work” required, and I am expecting a drop in our Google ranking.
Before I check, I will have a look at Google Webmasters and see how we are doing… one sec….
We have just taken on a new client who is a Real Estate agent. This presented a number of new issues and learning experiences for us, as this is a highly competitive term. But it is also a very “localised” term in most geographical areas.
So we had a bit of research to do, to find out what exactly what to target, how to target it and the best methods to use.
This was compounded as we were using proprietary websites and had limited control over some of the elements that we would normal use.
So it will be an interesting trial, and the results that we would normally expect may be a little harder to achieve, but I am confident that we can make it a success.
Will report back shortly.
The SEO Guy
I am still getting my emails from a certain SEO Company that shall remain nameless… even though I never signed up to their ‘news” in the first place and have unsubscribed via their link. Which appears to not work, so I keep getting their little gems that I have previously mentioned.
So what little gem have we received this week…?
Over the weekend Google rolled out the Penguin 3.0 update to the web.
This update has shifted search results and has a lot of webmasters
waiting to see where their rankings will settle.
The update we did the other day, made me go looking, in some detail, at the words the My SEO Guy does rank well for. By doing this analysis, we can find out a couple of key bits of information.
1. What words we do rank for.
2. What pages are ranked for the keywords above
3. Why are those pages ranked for those keywords
The answers to these questions can help guide our(or your) Search Engine optimisation plan, and tell us(you) what is working and what isn’t and what need’s adjusting or deleting. This analysis can really help change the effectiveness of the work that we do.
Well sort of free. :)
Have you got a small business or trade business website that needs some Search Engine Optimisation, Keyword Analysis, or Keyword Research?
Would you like to trade your business skills or trade expertise for work on your website?
My SEO Guy needs work from the trades listed below.
We have recently been working with a chiropractic business here in Brisbane to increase their search engine standing and have had some early good results. While the result themselves were not surprising, the speed at which they were achieved and the relative ease with which we achieved the results was a little surprising.
It was our understanding that the keywords targeted were most likely to be high competitive. Google has the keywords valued at between $6 – 8.00
A new client came to My SEO Guy with an existing site, and what would most often be classed as poor website traffic and poor search engine rankings. This is the sort of job we love. To aid in the turn around of a small business(in this case essentially a one man business)
This SEO job, targets some highly competitive keywords, which always makes our job more challenging, but also allows us to examine different on-page and off page strategies to lift the site against the ‘tide’ of other sites competing for these search terms.
With one month down since we took on the job of Search Engine Optimisation for this client we have some good results, but lots of work still to do.
We have delivered a great result for a long standing small business client based in Adelaide.
Reaching the Number #1 position on the first page of Google for a prime keyphrase and commonly used search term.
