So you want your business on the first page of Google results? ..and you want it there now..
This is an admirable goal, but one that must be tempered by the real world of the internet and search engine optimisation. ‘Internet sensations‘ often follow a simple boom and bust path.. So do you want your website to be Number #1 tomorrow and then Number # 176 in three weeks time… I think not.
Applying SEO principles and changes ‘slowly and in moderation is a significant key to success. Search engines want to see many of the things we have posted about before – Longevity, Focus and Continued steady growth in content.
Longevity most people understand, and the same can be said about Focus, and most likely many people know about continuous addition of content. But it is in the application of that content that one of the small secrets of SEO lies. That is.. slow and steady addition of content over time.
Lets say you a building a new site about ‘Coffee Cups’. So you collect everything you can find on Coffee Cups and their use, manufacture and distribution. You then take all that content and add it to your new site – allaboutcoffeeecups.com – and we are done!
That’s right we have added everything we know in one big hit, and have left our selves with no new content to add. The search engines, such as Google, then come by your site and find everything all at once and rank you for lots of keywords. Without the addition of new content those rankings will not last.. and will slowly drift away into the 20’s, 30’s, 50′ and so on of the results pages.
Yes, I realise this is a very simplistic or simplified explanation.. but you get the picture.
Taking the same new site, and slowly adding content over time would lead to success achieved more slowly, but also success sustained over time.
We have seen this time and time again in real world examples – including this site.
So remeber what your mother said – everything in moderation. It applies in SEO too, whether it’s keywords, tags, posts, pictures, links or any other aspect. Steady growth over time will stand your site in good stead for a long time.
