We have a new client that runs a brisbane based auto-related business, and they came to us after having multiple “SEO Guys” working on their site.
Understandably the client was looking for guarantees and assurances that we weren’t another fligh-by-night SEO mob, or an SEO Company that was too big to care about our clients ongoing needs.
After some strong negotiation the client came on board.
When examining their website from an SEO perspective, we noticed immediately that there were elements missing that are fundamental to good search engine optimisation.
In fact, as the client had at the time a large well-advertised SEO Comapny working for them, we were shocked at how poor the optimisation work had been done on the client’s website.
I had an SEO client in Brisbane contact me yesterday after their received a “cold call” from an SEO company.
The client said that the “SEO Company” had explained that they would be able to get the client’s website from page 3 in the Google SERPs, to page 1 in just one day.
Not bad… and the client wanted to know why we couldn’t do the same?
As I told the client… there are a few “myths”(I am using the word myth.. but you know what I mean!) in what the “SEO Company” guy had said, and some tell tale holes in his story indicated that they did not really have a clue what they were talking about.
We have just taken on a new client at My SEO Guy, and we have been a little shocked in the results we have found for their website and it’s current search engine rankings.
Shocked.. because they have employed a professional well known, and heavily advertised SEO company to ‘promote’ their site. This company was charging them on per month basis, which the client had been paying, yet when we reviewed the site, we found fundamental errors, and fundamental elements missing for the sites pages.
Of the 13 primary keywords we tested, we found only one page ranking in the first ten pages of Google for our client’s website. One … and it was on Page 10.
While the client works in a very competitive market, we were surprised at this very poor result for a website that was currently being “promoted”.
It’s time to start writing… in fact it’s past the time to start writing.. and you should get cracking right now!
This is what I tell clients with self-hosted/managed websites every day. If you(the client) want to help your site reach more people, rank better in the search engines, and be loved by Google et al, then start writing.. and don’t stop.
I am of course talking about what is commonly called “blogging”. Which is just a fancy term for adding news and updates to your site. When you do this, you add content to your site, you add keyword rich content to your site(assuming you are writing about relevant topics) and you keep your users informed and engaged.
I am still getting my emails from a certain SEO Company that shall remain nameless… even though I never signed up to their ‘news” in the first place and have unsubscribed via their link. Which appears to not work, so I keep getting their little gems that I have previously mentioned.
So what little gem have we received this week…?
Over the weekend Google rolled out the Penguin 3.0 update to the web.
This update has shifted search results and has a lot of webmasters
waiting to see where their rankings will settle.
Good news is the news of the day thanks to our friends at Google and some “work” done here at My SEO Guy.
Last update we were “ranked in position #46 for our chosen prime keywords.“.. and now… <drum roll> we are ranked in position #32.
A marked improvement, and a significant one, as we continue to push to the front page.
So why the improvement…? Without giving too much away.. we have been “working” on getting that improvement. Some of the work has been off-site, and some on-site, but the biggest influence has been on-site work done right here on the blog.
We have just started working for a new SEO Client here in Brisbane, and it has some new challenges for My SEO Guy.
The Client is a accommodation type hotel here in the Brisbane CBD. This, as you can imagine, is a highly competitive market and keywords are sort after by many websites and and companies representing them.
So we were surprised a little by the early success that we achieved for this ‘small’ hotel in Brisbane.
So I asked this question at a recent meeting of SEO professionals and newbies, and no one could give me an answer, and I am still struggling to find Google reasoning behind doing this thing.
So what was the question I asked?
Simple really.. I asked the gathered SEO people to search for “SEO Brisbane” on their mobile devices… right there and then in the meeting, and the question I asked was..
“Do you see Google + results in the search results?”
“If you do… are they your own results?”
The update we did the other day, made me go looking, in some detail, at the words the My SEO Guy does rank well for. By doing this analysis, we can find out a couple of key bits of information.
1. What words we do rank for.
2. What pages are ranked for the keywords above
3. Why are those pages ranked for those keywords
The answers to these questions can help guide our(or your) Search Engine optimisation plan, and tell us(you) what is working and what isn’t and what need’s adjusting or deleting. This analysis can really help change the effectiveness of the work that we do.
